From Early Years to our Adult Selves
03 February 2025
This Early Years Music Scotland workshop aims to promote discussion and share research around the area of the potential impact of our early experiences of music education on musical sustainability in our schools and communities
The workshop aims to promote discussion and share research around the area of the potential impact of our early experiences of music education on musical sustainability in our schools and communities. It will raise questions around the value placed on music in our primary schools and early years settings , what it means to be "musical", talent vs skill, who makes these decisions, and what are the implications?

This workshop will be delivered by Suzanne Briggs. Suzanne started her teaching career as a Secondary School French Teacher and later moved into Additional Support Needs, something which has had a great impact on all areas of her work. She has been involved in community music making since 2013, working with pre- school and primary children, with adult wellbeing singing, arts in care and teaching voice and flute.

Early Years Music Scotland is delivering a year-long programme of free, high-quality, creative and inspiring continuous professional learning and development for musicians working with children in the early years across Scotland, supported by Creative Scotland's Youth Music Initiative.

This workshop is free-of-charge to musicians who are resident in Scotland and working with children in the early years (0-5yrs). Non-Scottish residents and non-musicians may purchase a ticket.

This workshop will be recorded and available to view for one month following the event. If you are unable to attend live, you can select a 'session recording' ticket. The recording will be sent to all ticket holders within 48 hours of the event. Please book one ticket only.
