Upper primary and lower secondary teachers are invited to this launch event showcasing the new musical element of A’ Adam’s Bairns?, an educational resource to support learning around Scottish Identity and Diversity through the Expressive Arts.
Created in collaboration with professional musicians, music teachers, children and young people, this new resource for music classrooms is designed to help learners explore how music can shape identity.
Spotlighting influential artists like Sheila Stewart, Martyn Bennett and Karine Polwart, the resource brings powerful but often hidden voices to the forefront, celebrating the diverse cultures that have shaped and continue to shape Scotland’s musical landscape. Through engaging lesson plans and activities linked explicitly to the music curriculum in Scotland, the resource also encourages children to reflect on their own identities, respecting the identities of others, welcoming and belonging .
Hear from voices who helped to shape the resource:
Davie Donaldson Scottish Traveller Rights Campaigner and Senior DEI Consultant at Conyach Advocacy & Engagement
Hardeep Deerhe (Sodhi) Tabla musician, composer and performance artist
Laura-Beth Salter Traditional Scots mandolinist, tutor, singer and composer
