Award for Sound Sense member

Players from top north east England community steelband NTSB were in London recently to pick up a special award for 20 years’ service from the British Association of Steelbands.

There was a special surprise for one of them too. Musical director, and Sound Sense board member, Dave Edwards from Whitley Bay received the 2009 outstanding achievement award in recognition of long term contribution to the UK steelband community.

"I can't believe this, it's a fantastic honour, all of the previous winners have been really big national and international names," said Edwards. "It's recognition for the great work that's been going on in the north east for several years now, by lots of people, not just me. The players kept this a secret from me for weeks."
